Point-of-Care, Bedside, Focused, Limited and Handheld are commonly used terms to modify the word “ultrasound”, although the term point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) has been widely adopted.

The working definition of POCUS used by The POCUS Certification Academy is “the simultaneous acquisition and interpretation of ultrasound images at the patient’s bedside by a healthcare professional to immediately inform diagnosis or treatment, or to aid in the completion of procedures.”

Most learners start with the POCUS Fundamentals Certificate, which serves as the prerequisite for more advanced certifications.

Yes. Inteleos governs and manages the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography® (ARDMS®), the Alliance for Physician Certification & Advancement™ (APCA™), and the Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) Certification Academy™.
