The ARDMS Midwife Sonography Certificate is transitioning to the POCUS Maternal Fetal Health Certification (CP-MFH). If you currently hold the certificate, have an application in progress, or are considering this pathway, this page explains what’s changing and what to do next.
Overview
The ARDMS Midwife Sonography Certificate is transitioning to the POCUS Maternal Fetal Health Certification (CP-MFH) to better support how midwives use ultrasound in practice today. Applications for the legacy Midwife Sonography Certificate are no longer being accepted.
The POCUS Maternal Fetal Health Certification (CP-MFH) is designed to cover a broad range of maternal-fetal point-of-care ultrasound use, including the ways midwives use ultrasound to support safe, informed care. The transition ensures your ultrasound skills are recognized within a framework that reflects current maternal-fetal practice across care teams, while continuing to value the important role midwives play in this space.
Find Your Pathway
For active Midwife Sonography Certificate holders:
- Your first step is to create a POCUS account by completing the Registration Form and using the same email address you have on file with ARDMS. This step is required — we cannot issue your POCUS Maternal Fetal Health Certification (CP-MFH) until your account is created with a matching email address.
- Complete this step by October 2, 2026. Once your account and POCUS number have been created, your POCUS Maternal Fetal Health Certification (CP-MFH) will be issued, and your existing Midwife Sonography Certificate remains valid for five years from the transition date, provided you maintain your POCUS Maternal Fetal Health Certification (CP-MFH).

For candidates who passed the exam but have not yet completed the clinical assessment:
- Your first step is to create a POCUS account by completing the Registration Form and using the same email address you have on file with ARDMS. This step is required — we cannot enroll you in the POCUS Maternal Fetal Health Certification (CP-MFH) program, or issue your certification upon completion, until your account is created with a matching email address.
- Complete this step by October 2, 2026. Once your account and POCUS number have been created, you will be enrolled in the POCUS Maternal Fetal Health Certification program and follow the POCUS pathway to complete your remaining clinical components within six months of enrollment.

For anyone new to this pathway or returning after a break — including individuals whose certificate was revoked or retired, or whose exam was failed or rescinded.

What You Need to Know
POCUS account
Everyone receiving the POCUS Maternal Fetal Health Certification (CP-MFH) needs a POCUS account, created through the Registration Form at my.pocus.org, using the same email address you have on file with ARDMS. This is required — we cannot issue your certification, or enroll you in the program, until your account is created with a matching email address. Active holders and pending-assessment candidates should complete this by October 2, 2026.
Maintenance of Certification
Once your POCUS Maternal Fetal Health Certification (CP-MFH) is issued, MOC activities become available at the four-year mark, giving you a full year to complete them before the five-year deadline. No action is needed now — you’ll be notified when your MOC activities are ready. If you hold other ARDMS or APCA certifications, visit the Maintenance of Certification page for more information.

Your exam result is recognized as equivalent to the POCUS Clinical Case-Based Assessment. You’ll have six months to complete a Peer Evaluation and Video Submission to earn your POCUS Maternal Fetal Health Certification (CP-MFH).
